Our Staff

Activate Physical Therapy will be run by Dr. Shane Capone, DPT. A lifelong Jersey Shore resident, Shane has been a local PT for 10+ years. During that time Shane has done work with all types of cases including the general population, pre and post operative care, sports injuries, auto accidents, neuromuscular pathology, and more. He has volunteered at local high schools performing ACL screenings to identify and implement plans to reduce adolescent injuries. Shane most recently won the Asbury Park Press award for “Best of Best: Physical Therapist in Ocean County, NJ.” His dream of opening his own business and helping the most amount of people with his outreach has come true with Activate Physical Therapy.

Dr. Jake Akins heads a strong team of staff Therapists. Jake is from Festus, Missouri, and received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Saint Augustine in Miami. His favorite part of the job is improving patients’ quality of life by restoring their movement! Jake loves the outdoors, movies, and country music.

Dr. Chris MacIntosh is the managing partner of the Bayville, NJ location. Chris has been a PT since 2013, has treated a wide variety of injuries, and is certified in dry needling. Growing up playing sports, he discovered his passion for health, fitness, and the human body—making a career in PT a perfect match!

Meet Casey! Casey received her Bachelor’s Degree from Delaware University in Health Sciences and furthered her education at Mercer County College to achieve her License as a Physical Therapist Assistant. As a PTA she carries out treatment plans providing hands-on treatment as well as utilizing her expertise in therapeutic exercise. When not at work she loves soccer, sports, spending time with her son Grayson, her dog Nola, and her husband Brendan. She got into Physical Therapy thanks to her long-time love of soccer and battling injury that PT helped her return from.

Activate’s newest Occupational Therapist, Jessica Tarantino, has joined our team of highly skilled therapists! Jess received her Master’s Degree from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY. She got into OT because she believes everyone deserves to live a fulfilling and independent life. In her spare time, she enjoys pickleball, puzzles, and going for walks with friends and family.

Activate’s first Occupational Therapist, Shelly Carpino, joined our team after receiving her Master’s Degree from Sacred Heart University. Shelly devotes her time helping others return to the activities they enjoy. When not working as an OT, Shelly coaches at Apache CrossFit, helping people achieve their fitness goals. She also specializes in the LSVT BIG program, helping individuals with Parkinson’s Disease improve movement and quality of life.

Meet our office manager, Heather. Heather is from Toms River and enjoys swimming in her pool and spending time with her three children. She is the first and last point of contact in the office and handles all insurance and administrative questions, comments, and concerns.
